Portrait: Chris & Kim - Marley Beach, Bermuda

Chris and Kim flew to Bermuda to celebrate their 10 year anniversary - and - many congrats to them! They booked a photo shoot at Marley Beach and had a time slot that was just before the sunset golden hour. Some clients may opt for an earlier time slot just before or after the golden hour for several reasons. Perhaps there’s a young child who needs to go to sleep early? Or perhaps it’s a last minute booking?

Regardless of the reason, it’s important to understand a few things about light and how it may differ between “just outside golden hour” and “golden hour”. It’s also important to understand how the weather will affect a photo shoot: sunny, cloudy, partly cloud, etc. In the images within this post, you’ll notice shadows and highlights on Chris & Kim’s faces; these are formed by the direct sunlight. You’ll also notice - there are few clouds. Clouds can assist in creating a softer light, which can look flattering in portraits.

Beach locations are very popular for photo shoots in Bermuda. Some beaches offer a bit of “shade” for an opportunity to capture softer light. Similar to clouds in the sky, shade “cuts” the light to make it a little softer; creating less shadows and highlights.

In the images below, you’ll see Chris & Kim standing along the path that leads to Marley Beach. What is awesome about this path is that it offers a bit of shade for softer light - and - a different backdrop!

So - even if your photo shoot is just before sunset or just after sunrise - it’s still possible to get some great shots! Curious to learn more about the golden hour light? Please click “here” for details.
